Mecum Auctions has this unique Ferrari sports car currently listed with them and despite its spartan interior, it is a great collector’s piece.
If you head to Mecum Auctions right now, you might be able to get your hands on this second-phase prototype of the LaFerrari.
This is one of the most unique cars you may ever lay your eyes on. The auction listing on Mecum says that this is the LaFerrari second-phase prototype and is a second family car.
All car companies have their own internal designations for their vehicles, and internally, the LaFerrari was also known as the F150 Mulotipo MP1. We all know it of course as LaFerrari. What this essentially is, is a pre-production chassis and tub in technical carbon fiber with a prototype drivetrain. But that drivetrain is also based on the final layout that we saw in the production cars.
Under the hood of this prototype is a type F140FD second-generation V12 engine, that has the prototype hybrid HY-KERS system and a prototype engine bay layout. The body and trim is completely unique and not derived from any other Ferrari car, making this an even more exclusive car to own.
This car served as a development prototype between March 2012 and August 2013 to help integrate all mechanical systems and their development. In its dark and menacing black vinyl paint, it looks utterly incredible and very much like a stealth car.
The only thing breaking up the matte black paintwork are the white vinyl roundels and Pirelli graphics. These give the car a bit of a GT racer vibe. For a prototype car, it does have very few miles 10 years on from its creation. The listing states that this LaFerrari has just 36,068 kilometers on the clock, which roughly equates to around 22,411 miles.
Inside, you won’t get many creature comforts. This prototype has a very spartan interior with carbon fiber panels, plexiglass windows and a fabricated dash with a LaFerrari digital display. This is a main attraction of Mecum’s Monterey 2022 auction that runs from August, 18-20.
