One Of A Kind: An Auction For The First American F1 Car, High Price Expected
When new, this rare Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta went to the Collection at Coral Gables, Florida, and bore an Ohio registration before being recently acquired by the current owner. The price climbed to $3 million rather quickly but, remember that in 2017, a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta sold for a whopping $9.98 million.
The highest online car sale on Bring A Trailer belongs to a $2.28 million bid, for a 1927 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Sport/4. Since the early bid on this Ferrari was already higher, BaT is heading into new territories. It’s not just the features of this Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta that are breaking auction records, but all the exciting big-money bids.
Flavio Manzoni designed the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta for Centro Stile Ferrari and the car debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It was an ode to the automaker’s 70th anniversary and was the brand’s flagship model, much like the 288 GTO, F40, F50, and Enzo before it. This example comes in Rosso Corsa finishing. Inside, there are black leather and Alcantara seats with red accents, and the 6.3-liter V12 waits to blow your mind, together with an electric motor. The total output is a breathtaking 950 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, on a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The winning bid of $5,360,000 went to a user called “Calculator987” and the comment stream soon filled up with congratulations to them, from all the people who were watching the bidding live. Most call it a great investment, telling the winner that the price of this car is only likely to go up.
The listing details that the car got new spark plugs in November 2021 and the last annual service was from Ferrari of Atlanta in March 2022. With only 161 miles on the odometer, the car will come with a window sticker, factory books, a Ferrari “Attestation for Special Series Vehicles” book, a hardtop storage bag, and a battery charger. It also bears all service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Ohio title.
