A customer has slammed a Toby Carvery roast delivered to her home by Just Eat, claiming it turned up looking like ‘a dog’s dinner’.
Nicki White, 26, was left disappointed after ordering the Sunday lunch from the carvery chain’s branch in Ramsgate, Kent.
She complained to the restaurant over receiving a few measly dried pieces of meat and undercooked vegetables, saying it was the ‘worst roast she has ever eaten’.
Ms White added that despite Toby’s being one of her favourite trips, especially at Christmas, she will now never go there again.
The chain confirmed it is investigating the complaint and has apologised to Ms White, offering her a free meal as compensation.
Ms White said: ‘It was undercooked, the portion was small, it was just unsatisfactory. Putting it simply, it was the worst roast I have ever eaten.
‘I would normally go to the restaurant, but because I wasn’t feeling well my daughter wanted a roast so I thought I would give it a go.
Ms White had posted images of her dinner to Facebook. She paid £17 for one adult portion and one child portion on Sunday, September 12.
She wrote: ‘If anyone’s thinking of getting a Toby Carvery delivered. Don’t do it! Absolute rip off!
‘Under cooked veg, black cauliflower, hardly any meat, gravy was like water, stuffing was wet and mushy.
‘I pre-ordered two hours before and was still late, a driver turned up to collect but wasn’t ready so he left and had to send another driver. Will never order a takeaway from them again.’
One local commented: ‘That’s why I don’t go there, let alone take away! The number of microwaves in that place is shocking!’
Another said: ‘I’ve had quite a poor take away too before – so I didn’t bother again’, while a third added: ‘Had the same problem. Make a formal complaint to them.’
And a fourth wrote: ‘Yes we ordered today too and had a similar experience. They even forgot our pigs in blankets.’
Responding to one comment, Ms White said: ‘I honestly think my dog could have cooked better.’
Others said they couldn’t believe the poor quality because they had always received brilliant meals there.
Toby’s has 1158 outlets across Britain and prides itself on offering huge roasts for a bargain price.
Ms White has complained and the chain – owned by Mitchells & Butlers – is investigating.
A spokesperson for Toby Carvery said: ‘We pride ourselves on our delicious great value roast dinners, so we are very disappointed one of our valued customers received a delivery meal that doesn’t reflect our high standards on this occasion.
‘We have raised this with our internal teams to investigate and we have reached out to the customer to apologise and invite her to have a meal on us.’
